Flu Season Note from the Nurse

Wright Elementary Parents/Guardians:

Flu season is in full swing in Iowa and many of the schools.  The flu shot is a great way to protect yourself and your kids from getting the flu – or if you do contract the flu and have had the flu shot your symptoms are greatly reduced.

The best defense to getting the flu is excellent hand hygiene.  Frequent hand washing is vitally important.  It is also extremely important to stay home and keep your kids home when they are sick. Please keep kids home if they have a cough that is uncontrollable, fever, vomiting, diarrhea, or sever sore throat.  We ask that they be symptom free for 24 hours before returning to school.

Here is a reference table that discusses the difference between a cold and the flu. Remember, influenza (aka flu) is a respiratory virus.  It is NOT the stomach bug.
